Certificates, Diplomas, Masters and Doctorates
The Word and Spirit Certificate, Diploma and Masters in Bible and Ministry programmes are based on the same principles that undergird Word and Spirit. These include the belief that the Bible is a fundamentally important and a God-inspired gift that is intended to help us to encounter God, whose desire, amazingly, is to reveal himself to us.
If you wish to study purely online at Masters and Doctoral levels with The New international University, where I serve as the Academic Dean, check it out (www.tniu.org) and email me or the Chief Academic Officer, Dr Gabriella van Breda (gaby.vanbreda@tniu.org).
In a journey of exploration, you will discover truth – truth about God and us, how he relates to us and how we can relate to him, how we can benefit from his resources and how we can work with him in fulfilling his will on this earth. The process is intended to be an enjoyable one, resulting in personal satisfaction and exhilaration as you learn about God and encounter him.
As a result of exploring and engaging with the Bible, you will be touched by the heavenly author, God, whose desire and design is not just to reveal truth but also to transform us and create in us a likeness to himself
The Word & Spirit Certificate and Diploma in Bible and Ministry
What’s included?
Each course for each programme includes teaching, streamed or offered on DVDs with booklets that provide opportunities to think about issues relating to the course concerned. The subjects vary but the central themes relate to the importance of discovering what the Bible says and then applying what we learn to our lives.
Each of the first four Bible Study courses (Mark 1-8; Mark 9-16, Ephesians and James) include 15 minutes of teaching related to each of the eight sections in each course; the associated booklets provide questions and data related to each of the eight sections. The Bible and Theology courses include around 30 minutes of teaching related to each of the ten sections in each course; the associated booklets provide questions and data related to each of the ten sections.
Who can participate?
The studies are open to all; no prior qualifications or knowledge is needed. They have been created to cater for young and older Christians. All that is needed is the gift of curiosity and a desire to explore what the Bible has to say about the topics concerned.

Masters in Bible and Ministry
This Masters programme is offered by Word and Spirit.
The Masters is not an academic degree, but is a focussed advanced study of a range of biblically based topics intended to facilitate ones development in ministry. It’s not validated by an educational institution (though it can be a springboard for the doctoral programmes offered by the New International University (TNIU)). If that’s the kind of online Masters that you wish to undertake, check out those offered by the TNIU (tniu.org).
The Word and Masters is a different type of Masters – intended for Christian leaders or other Christians who want a targetted journey of study in the context of dedicated biblical and scholarly support that will result in the targets being achieved. The teaching is offered by streamed teaching; booklets are also provided, and guidance related to other components for the study are noted in each syllabus.
The programme is based on the US M degree format which generally offers a range of taught courses plus complementary study (the contents of the syllabi are actually very similar to those that I have constructed for validated Masters degrees in the States). Unlike other Masters, ours is not constrained by some (at least for our purposes) less relevant and therefore unnecessary academic hurdles of such programmes; of course such programmes have value and my academic journey involves BA, MPhil, PhD (all validated by UK Universities). However, I wanted to devise and provide a bespoke, centrally biblical and practically and ministry-oriented programme of study when the sense of mastering the topics would be core to the journey.
Core elements of the programme:-
– The emphases are on the Bible and ministry – practical, biblical and applicatory.
– It is an online programme in English.
– There are ten courses.
– Each course may be completed in 50-70 hours; the whole programme may be undertaken on a part-time or full-time basis.
– To undertake the programme, a Bachelors degree is often preferred though an experience-based portfolio will also be considered instead.
– The time frame is flexible with no maximum time for completion specified; it can be completed over 1 year (@15 hours per week); 2 years (@ 7.5 hours per week); 3 years (@ 4 hours per week).
Each of the 10 courses chosen include the following –
Assigned reading; Video teaching; Discussion Questions; Book reviews; Research paper
